Mattel to Make 80% of Games Colorblind Accessible by End of 2024

mattel logoMattel, Inc. is enhancing inclusivity by ensuring 80% of its global games portfolio, including UNO, Dos, Blokus, Phase 10, Skip-Bo and Ker Plunk, will be colorblind accessible by the end of 2024, with a goal of 90% by 2025. This initiative aims to accommodate the 300 million people worldwide with colorblindness.

Mattel collaborated with color vision deficiency experts and colorblind individuals to implement patterns, tactile clues and symbols. The company will also donate colorblind accessible games to U.S. YMCA summer camps. Colorblind accessible games will include a label on the packaging. Differentiating symbols, such as patterns and tactile clues, will identify each color.

“Mattel is committed to designing products that better reflect the world today and create positive social impact. This includes bringing more representative and inclusive products to market across Mattel brands,” says Mason Williams, global head of diversity, equity and inclusion, Mattel.
