On April 1, Kevin Chan, OD, MS, FAAO, IACMM, and Ashley Tucker, OD, FAAO, FSLS, Dipl ABO, became the new medical co-editors at Review of Myopia Management.
They take the reins from Dwight Akerman, OD, MBA, FAAO, Dipl AAO, FBCLA, FIACLE, the founding chief medical editor of Review of Myopia Management, who becomes the chief medical editor emeritus.
ABOUT THE EDITORS
The two co-editors are both active in myopia management in their respective practices. Dr. Chan is the Senior Clinical Director of Treehouse Eyes in Vienna, Virginia. Dr. Tucker is a partner at Bellaire Family Eye Care and The Contact Lens Institute of Houston, Texas. Together, they will elevate the journal to new heights.
Dr. Chan brings a keen interest in the clinical advances and evidence-based research behind myopia management strategies, aspects he employs in his practice. He says, “I am honored to step into this role as medical co-editor of Review of Myopia Management and to continue advancing the conversation and advocating myopia management as the standard of care in eye care. This platform led by Dr. Akerman has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of myopia, and I look forward to contributing to its growth and impact on eye care professionals and the patients they serve.”
Dr. Tucker, who has helped grow the myopia management practice at Bellaire Family Eye Care into a strong business component, brings an interest in effective implementation and staff training. She says, “It is a privilege to join Review of Myopia Management as co-editor and to build upon the incredible foundation established by Dr. Akerman and the team. I am excited to bring my passion for myopia management into this role, helping to empower eye care professionals to integrate this specialty into their practices effectively.”
During Dr. Akerman’s tenure, Review of Myopia Management developed a robust online platform and hosted more than 20 educational summits. Dr. Akerman says, “I am proud of our achievements together and the impact we’ve made on eye care professionals and the lives of myopic children. I am thankful for the brilliant team that has supported me throughout these years, as well as the partners I have collaborated with in the eye care and healthcare industries. As I prepare to embark on a new chapter in my career and life, I look forward to continuing to drive positive change and innovation in the field of myopia management.”
MORE CHANGES
Another change at Review of Myopia Management is the retirement of John Sailer as editor-in-chief. “I am grateful for all the work that Dr. Akerman and John have done in building Review of Myopia Management into this premier and reliable resource for eye care professionals at every stage and interest level in myopia management,” said Kristen Dalli, managing editor. “We have accomplished a great deal in the past six years, and I look forward to bringing new voices and new perspectives to the platform while retaining the legacy upon which it is built.”
