Nominate an Outstanding OD for Theia Awards of Excellence

For the past decade, Women In Optometry has celebrated a total of 71 women through the annual Theia Awards of Excellence.

Nominations for the 11th annual Theia Awards of Excellence are now open. Nominations for more than one person are accepted. Nominations close Wednesday, June 17 @ 11:59 p.m. EST.

The awards will be presented Tuesday, Sept. 29, during the American Academy of Optometry meeting in Anaheim, California, at the end of the Women’s Leadership Conference. Learn more and register here.

Several of the award categories open for nominations are named for a trailblazing female optometrist.

Theia Awards winners will be selected in the following categories:

  • Leadership: Recognizes exceptional leadership within an organization, the community or through advocacy efforts.
  • Mentoring: Honors individuals who actively guide and support others in practice management and professional development beyond optometry school.
  • Innovation: Celebrates those who bring fresh ideas to the profession through outreach, marketing, practice models, inventions and more.
  • Education: Recognizes educators who inspire and motivate students or peers through their teaching and mentorship.
  • Young OD: Awarded to an optometrist within 10 years of graduation who demonstrates  excellence in one or more of these categories.
  • Industry Influencer: Open to both female ODs and non-ODs who are shaping the future of optometry through their work in industry or professional affiliations.
  • Business: Recognizes a doctor who displays outstanding business acumen and success in practice.
