Transformative Moments From Our Women’s Leadership Conference Panelists

At this year’s Women’s Leadership Conference (#WOLC2025), being held Tuesday, Oct. 7, in Boston, three ODs will share how they found the inspiration and courage to step outside of their comfort zone and live their lives more fully and help others do the same.

Camille Cohen, OD, FAAO, of New York, New York assisted student mentees who were struggling with board exams during the COVID-19 lockdown. This mentorship tutoring project developed into the more formal Eyerie Academics program, which equally emphasizes well being, organizational skills and study habits. These principles of being mentally prepared and envisioning success helped her pursue Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry, and encourage others to do so as a member of the Fellowship Engagement Committee.

“Our greatest strength is recognizing that we are able and capable of accomplishing any goal if we first believe that the goal is possible.”

Dr. Meagan Herring

Meagan Herring, OD, FAAO, CHHP, of Kodiak, Alaska, is a certified holistic health professional known on Instagram as The Mindful Optometrist. Embracing change as a military spouse has taught her resilience and growth, while life in Alaska inspires her to push beyond her comfort zone—whether summiting mountains or guiding patients. In learning to calm her own stress and step into these challenges, she encourages mindfulness to colleagues and patients alike as a reminder that visual health is intertwined with physical, mental and emotional well-being.

“Being limitless isn’t about being fearless. It’s about finding the courage to grow and the community to help you rise.”

Anney Joseph, OD, FAAO, of New York, New York, was unhappy with her work environment, but she felt stuck. A chance dinner party with former colleagues led her in a different direction. She now works as a tele-eye care provider with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and prioritizes a healthy work/life balance. As a member of the care team, she can dive deeply into patient history and be an integral part in helping these patients live their best lives.

“Limitless represents commitment to finding solutions for every visual challenge, whether that’s working with complex cases, adapting to new technologies or ensuring that cost or access never prevents someone from receiving proper eye care.”
