The Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) presented its 2021 honorees recently.

Katherine Green, OD, assistant professor at NOVA Southeastern University College of Optometry, has been awarded the Rising Star Award.
Elena Z. Biffi, OD, MS, FAAO, of the New England College of Optometry, received the Dr. Lester Janoff Award for Writing Excellence.
The Dr. Jack Bennett Innovation in Optometric Education Award was granted to two ODs: Linda Casser, OD, FAAO, FNAP, of Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, and
Gary Chu, OD, MPH, FAAO, of New England College of Optometry.
Doug Hoffman, OD, FAAO, of New England College of Optometry, was honored with the ASCO Lifetime Achievement Award
Tam Tran, OD, a new graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry, was honored with the Student Award in Clinical Ethics.

 

The American Academy of Optometry Foundation (AAOF) recognized several women for its 2021 Awards Program.

Stephanie Aigbe, OD, was honored with the Alfred A. Rosenbloom, Jr., Low Vision Residency Award. Dr. Aigbe is a graduate and Low Vision Rehabilitation resident at the New England College of Optometry.
The Fredric Rosemore Low Vision Educational Grant was awarded to Tracy Matchinski, OD, FAAO, FVI, of Chicago, Illinois. Her team includes:
Mallory McLaughlin, OD, FAAO;
Danielle Piser, OD, FAAO;
and Janis Winters, OD, FAAO.
The Bert C. and Lydia M. Corwin Contact Lens Residency Award Recipient was awarded to Liandra Jung, OD, of Berkeley, California.

The Thought Leader of the Year was awarded to Janelle Davison, OD, of Smyrna, Georgia.
The Elite Diva Member of the Year was awarded to Michelle Gonzalez, OD, of Pembroke Pines, Florida.
The Lead Ambassador of the Year was awarded to Glenda Aleman Moheeputh, OD, of Pembroke Pines, Florida.
Valeria Napoles, a third-year student at NOVA Southeastern University Optometry School, was granted the CEO of YOU® Scholarship.
