In honor of International Women’s Day earlier this month, Women In Optometry recognizes the accomplishments of women ODs in the latest installment of its Women In The News segment.

Ashley McFerron, OD, of Canby, Oregon, was named to the American Optometric Association’s Industry Relations Committee, which is tasked with building and maintaining relationships with businesses that support the optometry industry. ashley mcferron featured
Erin McCleary, OD, of Plainville, was recognized as Optometrist of the Year for 2020 by the Connecticut Association of Optometrists.
The board of directors at VSP Global has named Mary Anne C. Murphy, OD, of Broomfield, Colorado, chair of the board for a two-year term.
The American Academy of Optometry Foundation is pleased to announce Justina Raouf Assaad, OD, as the recipient of the 2021 AAOF Jill and George Mertz Fellowship. Dr. Assaad is a primary care optometry resident at the University of Houston College of Optometry.
April Jasper, OD, FAAO, of West Palm Beach, Florida, joined The Power Practice team as co-chief dream officer.
Dorothy Hitchmoth, OD, FAAO, of New London, New Hampshire, received recognition as a Healthcare Hero Honoree from Project C.U.R.E. during its 2021 International Women’s Day celebration. Learn more and watch her brief acceptance video.
The new co-directors of the Ketchum Health’s University Eye Center in Los Angeles, California, are Dashaini Retnasothie, OD, MS, FAAO;
and Lisa Wahl, OD, FAAO.
Among the 10 new members elected to the Global Myopia Awareness Coalition 2021 board are two women:  Millicent Knight, OD, FAAO, FAARM, senior vice president, customer development group, Essilor of America; millicent knight
and Lisa McAlister, marketing committee co-chair. global myopia lead, Johnson & Johnson Vision.
Others on the board are Juan Carlos Aragon, OD, GMAC chair, president, CooperVision Specialty EyeCare; Matt Oerding, immediate past chair and marketing committee co-chair, CEO and co-founder of Treehouse Eyes; Kovin Naidoo, senior vice president, social impact, Africa and Latin America, Essilor; Bill Scott, president, Jobson Healthcare Information; Marc Ferrara, CEO of information services, Jobson Healthcare Information; Raul Trillo, MD, MBA, chief commercial officer, Nevakar Inc.; Tony Sommer, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Visioneering Technologies Inc.; and Scott Mundle, OD; immediate past president, World Council of Optometry.
