Zenlens® ECHO™ Scleral Lenses Launched in the U.S.

Bausch + Lomb Corporation has launched Zenlens ECHO, a non-prosthetic, custom scleral contact lens technology. The design fits a wide variety of corneal shapes and sizes, including patients who have advanced ocular conditions such as corneal degeneration and certain postoperative conditions.

“ECHO builds on our Zenlens specialty lens brand, providing eye care professionals with an additional level of customization for patients with advanced needs who require more specificity in their lens fitting,” said Yang Yang, president, Global Vision Care, Bausch + Lomb.

Unlike impression-based or freeform lenses that can be expensive and require additional training or equipment, doctors can use with a variety of technologies already available in clinical practice, including a slit lamp, optical coherence tomography scanning, profilometry or a Bi-Elevation™ fitting set. There is no additional training or certification required.

“Fitting patients who have advanced ocular conditions can be extremely complex. Zenlens ECHO simplifies the process,” said Jason Jedlicka, OD, associate professor and director of the Cornea and Contact Lens Service, Indiana University School of Optometry. “Having the ability to further customize my patients’ lens fits and achieve great outcomes without the high cost of a freeform design or high-end equipment fills an important need in my practice.”
