After Ashley McFerron, OD, moved to Oregon, she began working for Scott Nehring, OD, in Woodburn in his Vision Source practice. “He became my mentor when I worked with him for three-and-a-half years,” she says. The two heard about a practice going for sale 12 miles away in Canby, and they decided to visit it together. “The second we walked in, we knew it was a terrific opportunity,” she says. “He turned to me and said, ‘Do you want to buy it together? Or buy it yourself? Or I can help finance it?’”
Even though the practice was technically inside the geographic range of the noncompete she signed, he was fully supportive of her purchase. She decided to buy it on her own, and Canby Eyecare is now also a Vision Source practice. The two remain close, and now Dr. Nehring’s daughter, Emilee Nehring, OD, works at Canby Eyecare one day a week. “I’ve been able to mentor her,” Dr. McFerron says.
