Cheryl Chapman, OD, FIAOMC, FAAO, Dipl ABO, of Gretna Vision Source in Gretna, Nebraska, and Christopher Wolfe, OD, FAAO, Dipl ABO, developed Peeq Pro, a forward-thinking approach to maintaining eyelid health. It’s a subscription box service that starts in the doctor’s office. This system ensures that patients can consistently access the products they need to maintain their eyelid health, without the hassle of running out or forgetting to reorder. Doctors can offer the first box in their office, after which patients can sign up via a QR code for regular deliveries. Peeq Pro fulfills these orders, shipping directly to the patients, while also sharing revenue with the prescribing doctors.

“Dentists for decades have been teaching us to brush our teeth and that helps avoid cavities that helps avoid gum disease,” says Dr. Chapman. “If we take better care of our eyelids, we’re going to have fewer problems with blepharitis, fewer problems with demodex, fewer problems with meibomian gland dysfunction, fewer problems with dry eye disease and so on.”

They created an ultrasonic cleaner and an eyelid cleanser that didn’t have that strong tea tree oil smell. “The goal was to create a pleasant-smelling eyelid cleanser that patients would look forward to using, similar to how people enjoy the minty freshness of brushing their teeth. By improving the scent of the Peeq Pro tea tree cleanser, we aimed to create a product where patients would be more inclined to adopt this crucial step in their daily routine.”

Beyond the cleanser, they also developed the Peeq Waiva, a patent-pending device that functions as an “ultrasonic toothbrush” for the eyelids. This tool is designed to remove makeup, biofilm and other debris from the eyelid margins. While not every patient needs a device of this caliber, it provides an advanced option for those looking to take their eyelid hygiene to the next level, she says.
