Two Mentors Impact Career

Kate Hamm, OD, shared her appreciation for two mentors with Women In Optometry. “These are strong women who consistently show how to lead with your heart,” she says.

Dr. Hamm gives praise to Jennifer Lyerly, OD, who was by her side as she navigated the transition from student to doctor. “She helped me figure out how to broach topics with my boss and being a woman who doesn’t have to choose between work and family, but can choose when to say no.”

Dr. Hamm says another important mentor in her career has been Charissa Lee, OD. “Dr. Charissa has shown me how the path you start on doesn’t have to be the path has to define you,” Dr. Hamm says. “You are able to flex and change. Your values and intentions for good are what guides your path.”
