Katy Craft, OD, loves being outdoors—running, golfing, hiking—but there was always one little frustration that wouldn’t go away: the cap.
“I could never find one that actually fit me,” she says. “Everything was designed for men first, and we were just an afterthought.”
Rather than accept the status quo, Dr. Craft decided to change it. What started as a curiosity quickly became an obsession. She dove into data on female skull sizes, sketched prototypes, bought a sewing machine and tested fabrics until she found the perfect formula. The result is VimHue, a line of caps engineered specifically for women, launched in 2018.

Not long after, Dr. Craft faced a crossroads. Optometry had been her career path, but VimHue was pulling her in a new direction. She made the leap, leaving the exam lane behind to run her company full time. Today, VimHue offers a wide variety of caps and visors designed by women, for women and girls—products that combine style, function and comfort in a way the industry had long overlooked.
One of VimHue’s signature touches is its adjustable lacing detail at the back—a design that perfectly accommodates ponytails without the awkward tug or messy fit that so many women are used to.
“It’s a small detail, but for women, it makes all the difference. When your gear fits right, you can focus on your game, not your hat.”
