Amanda Walls, OD, realized that her optometry practice, Falcon Family Eye Care, had outgrown its original space. With only two exam lanes, the need for more room became urgent when she hired a second doctor. “We wanted to fill the need of a growing community,” Dr. Walls says.
After eight years of searching for the right location, Dr. Walls finally found the perfect spot to build her vision and expand her practice. The new space offers double the square footage of her original location, allowing for four exam lanes and the integration of advanced technology, including equipment for primary eye care, glaucoma and diabetic management and veteran disability exams. “We just wanted a beautiful space that we could take care of our patients in,” she says.
DESIGNING A SPACE FOR A GROWING COMMUNITY
Dr. Walls focused her design strategy on features that would enhance the patient experience and streamline her workflow. “We’ll have twice as many doctor appointments available because the space is larger,” she says. “There will be no wait to come in, so our patients can get in on their own timeline.” This increased capacity is essential for accommodating the needs of the growing Falcon community, particularly families and military personnel.
The larger space also allows for an optical area that is twice the size of the previous one, offering patients a wider selection of frames. “We also plan to edge our own lenses, so we can provide next-day service for cutting lenses and dispensing glasses,” Dr. Walls says. She is pleased that these upgrades will enable patients to receive timely, in-house services and products.
DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM COLORADO
Her love for the outdoors and local landscape shaped her design vision. She teamed up with designer Lydia Andrews of Maple and Moss and architect Nick Sallecchia of Butcher Design Studio to bring that vision to life. “Our designer knows we live near the mountains 
and knows I love to hike,” she says. The color scheme features navy, white, gold and black, complemented by wooden and plaid accents. The furniture fixtures are homey, with a leather couch and plaid rug that create a welcoming atmosphere in the waiting area.
Dr. Walls envisioned an elevated mountain theme, with ombre stencils and vintage posters of mountains adorning the back wall of each exam lane. “When a patient walks into the clean and modern space, they can feel confident that they will be taken care of,” she says.
PRACTICALITY AND PATIENT-CENTERED CARE
To further cater to her patient demographic, Dr. Walls has included a dedicated children’s area featuring two wooden glasses chairs where kids can sit. This area is stocked with books and eye doctor toys, ensuring that young patients enjoy their visits and allowing 
parents to focus on their appointments without distraction.
Dr. Walls’ interest in eye care began at an early age. At seven, her grandmother suggested she become a doctor, but Dr. Walls dismissed the idea upon realizing she was not comfortable with blood. Reflecting on her options in medicine, she found herself drawn to optometry. “I thought, ‘What has the least amount of blood?’ Eyes. That’s my story,” Dr. Walls says. “I interviewed at medical and optometry schools, and I realized that the women optometrists had lives outside of their careers, and it really inspired me.” This solidified her decision to pursue a career in optometry rather than medicine.
She purchased Falcon Family Eye Care from its previous owner in 2013. “I always wanted to work in private practice,” she says. “I feel like it’s the place we can give patients the best care.” After purchasing another practice, Optom-Eyes in Colorado Springs, in 2021, she continued to focus on expanding her reach within her local Colorado community.
Dr. Walls opened the second Falcon Family Eye Care in Falcon, Colorado, on May 12, 2025. She is excited to welcome new and existing patients into a space designed with their needs in mind.
