Therapeutic optometrists Tiffany Chen, OD, and Deborah Wei, OD, joined forces to deliver personalized care in a sleek, modern space. Modern Vue Eyecare in Plano, Texas, showcases their shared vision, teamwork and commitment to patient satisfaction.
BUILDING A PARTNERSHIP
Dr. Chen and Dr. Wei met in 2021, introduced by a mutual friend shortly after graduating from optometry school. While Dr. Chen had dreamed of private practice, Dr. Wei wasn’t ready to take on the challenge solo while raising two children.
“Dr. Chen said, ‘Let’s do it together,’ and it was the encouragement I needed,” Dr. Wei says.
The pair began searching for the ideal location in 2022, seeking a Vision Source space. They signed a lease in 2023 for a 1,700-square-foot new-build shell in central Plano. While Dr. Chen’s extensive research informed the design, Dr. Wei brought recent experience from building her family home in Plano. They also got help from Karina K Studios. Construction began in late 2023, with both doctors contributing ideas to the functional and inviting layout.
Walls were framed and built, polished concrete flooring was poured and after palettes upon palettes of deliveries, the practice opened in March 2024.
MODERN DESIGN WITH NATURAL TOUCHES
The aesthetic at Modern Vue Eyecare balances sleek modernity with natural elements. Two-story-high ceilings look even higher against bright white walls, black and gold accents and large front windows create an airy, welcoming environment. “The east-facing windows mean great light, but it also heats up the space in the morning,” Dr. Wei says. “It’s beautiful, but we’re going to need window treatments soon!”
A striking moss wall in the optical area, crafted by Urban Spikes in Dallas, reflects the doctors’ love of plants and their desire to bring nature indoors. The optical space displays about 400 frames, including sustainable brands like Eco, known for planting a tree for every frame sold.
Other design details include functional frame boards and storage, Wayfair mirrors and chandeliers chosen by Dr. Wei. A stylish sliding barn door adds a natural touch to the preliminary testing room. Outside, the matte black window trim matches the black and silver signage, and red brick brings a classic touch.
With the two doctors splitting time at the practice, one exam lane has been fully equipped and there is space for two more as the practice grows. Additional features include a contact lens insertion/removal area, a lab with in-house edger, two restrooms and a staff breakroom.
A BALANCED PARTNERSHIP
“Our collaboration has been seamless,” Dr. Wei says. “We’ve built a practice we’re proud of, and it feels amazing to do this as a team.”
