Laurie Sorrenson, OD, FAAO, and her son, Eric Hammond, OD, are both dedicated optometrists at Lakeline Vision Source in Cedar Park, Texas. For Dr. Sorrenson, having her son join her practice a few years ago has transformed her work life into something special. “Going to work when your kid is there doesn’t feel like going to work to me,” Dr. Sorrenson says.
Their personalities and work styles complement each other, enriching the practice’s culture. Dr. Hammond’s playful nature has infused the office with vibrant energy, turning even routine meetings into a highlight for the staff. “He also brings a millennial filter onboard and helps me see things through a little different filter,” Dr. Sorrenson says.
Dr. Hammond has also taken on the crucial role of hiring, a burden Dr. Sorrenson didn’t realize she had until he stepped in. “He’s very good at it and has learned a lot about how to attract more and better candidates,” she says. “It’s definitely a blessing that he chose optometry and that he chose to become a leader in our practice and profession.”
Beyond their professional partnership, Dr. Sorrenson shares the joy of being a new grandmother. “Eric and his wife, Tiffany, just gave me my first grandbaby, Hudson, Huddy Bear. That is the best,” she says. This new chapter in her life brings an additional sense of fulfillment to her already meaningful journey in both her family and career.
