If You Want Something Done—D.I.Y.

Mandy Bell and her husband

Mandy Bell of Advanced Eye Care in Nampa, Idaho, knows about paving your own way. The side business that she created, Indelible Creations, has been delighting patients and optical staffs alike since 2019. She began working at Advanced Eye Care, 10 years ago, as an optician and moved her way up to her current position of office manager.

When her current team started remodeling their office, she was tasked with redecorating. Nothing was quite matching her creative vision. “I wanted everything to be eye-related.”

After searching around and coming up empty-handed, Bell saw an opportunity. “I’m lucky enough to be married to an amazing carpenter. We started throwing ideas back and forth.”

The two turned to the old adage of wanting something done… and doing it themselves. “There are not a lot of options out there for eye-related decor. It has been so fun coming up with new ideas and new creations.”

All in the family

“We don’t buy anything pre-made. We make everything in our shop.” In fact, the project has turned into a family affair. “We have two kids still at home, and they come help out sometimes. It has been a fun family thing to do.”

While they use Etsy, the website is their primary source of traffic and communication with their customers. So far, the consumer praise has been rolling in. “We’ve gotten some great emails back telling us how much they love the items they have bought from us. We have people who buy from us repeatedly,” she says.

2020 vision

What’s next for Indelible Creations? “We’re going to do some apparel with eye-related sayings and jokes. We’ll probably start with t-shirts and jewelry.” They also will incorporate ideas from other ODs and optical staff. Indelible Creations prides itself on custom orders. “We do our best to create their vision.”
