Weekends Are for Catching Up

It’s not unusual for the work week to fly by in a blur, leaving behind a piling high to-do list. That’s the case for many respondents to a recent Women In Optometry Pop-up Poll, which took a look at how readers are spending their weekends. Participants were asked to select all of the activities that they had planned for the weekend, and the top response—among 60 percent of poll participants—included chores, errands and catching up on what was left behind from the week.

Forty percent of respondents planned to spend most of their time relaxing with family, and 34 percent would be spending time in the office or working on the business. Another 10 percent stated that the week and weekend tend to blend together when it comes to their to-do list and responsibilities.

The jury’s out on whether or not the weekend is enough time to recharge. The responses were quite evenly split with just a bit more saying no (36 percent) vs. yes (30 percent) or maybe (34 percent). When asked if they plan time for recharging, 41 percent said that they try to and just 16 percent routinely do so. Thirteen percent look for spontaneous opportunities, and 30 percent said that they wished that they did plan time for recharging in their schedule.

Forty percent of respondents stated that they were somewhere in the middle between being exhausted and perky. About 6 percent and 22 percent leaned towards exhausted, rating 1 and 2, respectively. A slightly larger number of respondents (26 percent and 7 percent) selected 4 and 5, as feeling more perky.
